Nashville, TN – (July 2, 2013) Marty Raybon’s new single “That Janie Baker” from his recently released album The Back Forty is keeping him high on the charts. Marty had the #1 song on the Bluegrass Unlimited Song Chart in June with “Dirt Road Heartache” and “That Janie Baker” debuts on the Bluegrass Unlimited Song Chart in July at # 27. “That Janie Baker” is also number #3 on the Bluegrass Today Monthly Airplay June Chart and #6 on the Sirius XM – Bluegrass Junction Most Played Tracks June Chart.
The Back Forty has also been received very positively by radio programmers and DJ’s since its release in April. The album has been consistently high on AirPlay Direct’s monthly Bluegrass Charts. Marty was also on the cover with a feature story in the May issue of AirPlay Direct’s “The Direct Buzz” online magazine.
Music reviewers have been giving “That Janie Baker” a lot of attention too. David McGee from Deep Roots Magazine wrote, “The early buzz around The Back Forty is centered on its driving opening number, ‘That Janie Baker,’ one of three songs Raybon co-wrote with John Fountain. Featuring Tim Crouch’s frisky fiddling and tasty solos from Scott Naiper on mandolin and Chris Wade on banjo, the song lauds both the uncommon beauty and the uncommon oratorical gifts of a gal who can ‘bring religion to a bad man or make a good man see his wicked ways,’ and thus spends her days ‘moving mountains’.”
Greg Victor from Parcbench.com said, “…You might recognize the title character in the kick-off tune, ‘That Janie Baker,’ as the focus of a Shenandoah hit from 1993 titled ‘Janie Baker’s Love Slave.’ Raybon was, of course, the lead singer for Shenandoah from 1985-96. In the past 40 years, Raybon has gone from the radio-friendly band Shenandoah to a successful solo career to his current adventures in bluegrass music.”
